Making local knowledge work

RVI’s 2017 annual courses come to a close

This June, RVI hosted the Institute’s fourteenth Annual Field Courses in Entebbe, Uganda, covering Sudan and South Sudan, the Great Lakes and the Horn of Africa. The innovative, dawn-to-dusk programme of seminars, lectures, group discussions and special events covered a variety of social, political and economic issues in the region, including migration, elections, armed groups, humanitarian response and peace processes.

This year’s annual courses included more than 90 participants from all over the world and six scholarship candidates drawn from eastern and central Africa. Once again, the courses were taught by teams of leading regional and international specialists, and this year’s courses brought together 35 teachers from 14 countries, including former Advisor to the President of Sudan, Ghazi Atabani, former IGAD Special Envoy to Somalia and current UNHCR Special Envoy on the Somali Refugee Situation, Mohamed Affey, and Burundian political analyst, Willy Nindorera.

The RVI is a market leader in the provision of graduate-level, professional training on sub-Saharan Africa. In addition to the annual field courses, the Institute delivers bespoke training courses upon request. Bespoke courses are co-designed and tailored to suit the specific interests and requirements of the recipient organization. They are taught by leading experts in the field and usually take a regional or thematic focus. For more information on RVI courses, please contact courses@riftvalley.net
