Rift Valley Institute

Making local knowledge work

Ten years of the Institute

In December 2011 the RVI marked its tenth anniversary year. On December 13 half-a-dozen Sudan Handbook contributors were present at the School of Oriental and African Studies for a panel discussion under the title "Next Year in Sudan and South Sudan: Can the historical pattern be broken?". Contributors to the book present at the event included Wendy James, Abdel Salam Sidahmed and three of the panel members: Eddie Thomas, Justin Willis and Douglas Johnson. The other members of the panel were RVI Fellow Jacob Akol, economist Mohamed Ahmed Mansour, and Nisreen Malik of the Guardian. The Sudan Handbook is available for free download at www.riftvalley.net/publications.
