Dozens of new images have been added to a website featuring more than 160 photographs, maps and drawings of Mogadishu, dating back to the late eighteenth century. Visitors to Mogadishu: Images from the Past are invited to add comments under each image, especially if they can shed light on locations and individuals in the pictures. Contents include street scenes, public buildings, markets, mosques, aerial views, people in different settings, political posters and statements, shop advertisements and monuments. The website owner, Rick Davies, describes it as an exercise in ‘crowdsourcing of history’.
