Mengistu Assefa is a Conflict Adviser at RVI Ethiopia. He brings extensive experience in peacebuilding, policy research, and the design of inclusive dialogue processes in fragile and divided societies. His work focuses on mitigating conflict through participatory approaches, advancing sustainable governance practices, and implementing strategies to address socio-political challenges fragile and divided societies. Mengistu has held several roles, including Head of Programs and Programs Manager at the Center for Advancement of Rights and Democracy (CARD), where he led initiatives promoting human rights, media freedom, and democratic governance in Ethiopia. He has served as a Consultant and Political Analyst for the Henry Dunant Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD), contributing to conflict resolution efforts in Ethiopia, and as Project Manager for the East African Initiative for Change (I4C), overseeing projects on conflict prevention and inter-party dialogue. Mengistu was a Yale University Peace Fellow for the 2025 which recognizes global leaders driving positive change in peacebuilding. He holds a Master’s in Global Studies and International Relations and has completed advanced training in governance, conflict analysis, and policy advice from the United States Institute of Peace and the Hertie School of Governance.
