In a contribution to a new book, The Golden Fleece: Manipulation and Independence in Humanitarian Action (Kumarian Press), Mark Bradbury writes on the political fallout from the failure of state-building in Somalia. He and his co-author, Robert Maletta, review the ways in which international politics has shaped humanitarian action in Somalia before examining how international state-building, stabilization, and counterterrorism policies compromised the ability of humanitarian aid organizations to assist and protect people in Somalia and helped to create a famine.
