RVI Publications Manager wins radio award

In November Fergus Nicoll, the Institute's Publications Manager, won the Association of International Broadcasters annual radio news award for his work for the BBC covering the independence of South Sudan. In their citation, the judges wrote: 'The judges were unanimous in their decision that the top award should go to BBC World Service for its coverage … Fergus Nicoll travelled throughout South Sudan … relating the human angles and telling these stories in an intelligent and interesting way.' Dr Nicoll, who is author of several works of Sudanese history, has also been appointed the 2013 Sir William Luce Fellow at Durham University.
