RVI’s 2023 Horn of Africa Course takes place from 23-28 July in Nairobi. This year, the course is focused on the theme of ‘New Stresses, Enduring Resilience? Ecology, Identity, and Governance in the Horn of Africa’. In recent years, the Horn of Africa region has faced severe challenges, including civil war, drought, the COVID-19 pandemic, and fallout from geopolitical conflicts. The course brings together top experts to explore the causes of crises and the resilience of societies in Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Somaliland, and Djibouti. Co-director of studies, Dr Ken Menkhaus speaks about why the course is important and key issues that will be explored during the course.

This report argues that, in order to improve women’s participation in politics and promote gender-responsive policies in the country, there is a need to enlarge
