Podcast: SSWRN | Women in Research: Reflections and Analysis on South Sudan

On Monday, 27 May 2024, the South Sudan Women’s Research Network (SSWRN), supported by the European Union, held a forum to launch and discuss research conducted by early career researchers involved in the project. This two-part podcast series captures the highlights and key presentations from the event.

Part 1 features introductions by Amina Abdulkadir, Mark Bradbury, and Geoffrey Lugano, followed by presentations from Agau Bul Deng and Julia Jadalla Jube. Agau emphasizes the often overlooked informal contributions of women through soft advocacy, such as song, in the peacebuilding process in Bor, Jonglei State. You can read her full report, “Hidden Figures,” here. Julia shares her preliminary findings on conflict in the Pibor Administrative Area. The session includes engaging discussions and a Q&A segment with the audience.

Part 2 continues with presentations from Kiden Sawala Laki and Catherine Iilwa Robert. Kiden presents her report, “Beyond the Surface,” examining the transition from subsistence fishing to commercialization and the realities of women’s participation in fishing markets in Bor, Jonglei State. Catherine discusses opportunities for wildlife tourism in Eastern Equatoria State. The podcast concludes with reflections and closing remarks from Manasseh Mathiang and Professor Tom Odhiambo, emphasizing the broader implications of the research presented.
