Migration, Movement and Mobility in the Era of COVID-19

Many governments have responded to the outbreak of COVID-19 by closing their borders and restricting the internal movement of people. While this kind of response has been deemed necessary to prevent the transmission of the virus, it has posed challenges to millions of people across the world by affecting normal patterns of migration and mobility. Its likely impact on particularly vulnerable groups like refugees, internally displaced populations, asylum seekers and labour migrants is not well understood.

On 6, 13 and 20 May 2020, the Rift Valley Forum, African Migration and Development Policy Centre (AMDPC) and Amnesty International hosted a webinar series on Migration, movement and mobility in the era of COVID-19. The webinar series unpacked the issues arising from the responses to the pandemic on migration in Eastern and the Horn of Africa, tackling a number of questions and exploring potential policy responses.
